Opis:
The aim of this study was to the remove micropollutants with biological estrogenic activity from real effluent. Four types of nanofiltration membranes were used, differ in molecular weight cut-off and polymer material. Opis:
In this studies the influence of the dose and ratio of chemical reagents (Fe2+ and H2O2) on the efficiency of COD removal and changes of BOD5/COD ratio in landfill leachate was analysed. The molar Fe2+/H2O2 ratio was lower than 1 and amounted to: 1:10, 1:5, 1:3, three research series with 1; 2.5 and 5 g/L Fe2+ concentration. A higher efficiency in removing BOD than COD, and therefore the decrease of BOD5/COD ratio in effluent was stated. The efficiency of COD removal from leachate was from 58.34% (Fe2+ 0.5 g/L, Fe22+/H2O2 1:5) to 8.33% (Fe2+ = 0.1 g/L, Fe2+/H2O2 = 1:10), while the efficiency of BOD removal ranged from 62 to 77%. With the molar ratio Fe2+/H2O2 equal 1:5 the BOD5/COD ratio was the largest for each of the analysed Fe2+ doses. The lowest BOD5/COD ratio was observed for the Fe2+ dose 0.1 g/L and molar ratio of reagents 1:3.

Opis:
The study aimed to assess the operation of the mechanical and biological wastewater treatment plant in Michów (Poland) in terms of the effectiveness of removing contaminants from mixed wastewater (dairy and domestic) and technological reliability. The wastewater treatment plant is owned by the Dairy Cooperative “Michowianka”. It is intended to treat mixed sewage, consisting of technological and sanitary sewage as well as part of rainwater from the plant, domestic wastewater supplied by a sewerage system from Michów, and wastewater delivered from septic tanks. In 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018, the permeate from the whey thickening process was also sent to the treatment plant. The period 2017-2021 was covered by the analysis. The analysis included the indicators from the fundamental group (TSS, BOD5, COD), biogenic indices (total phosphorus, total nitrogen, and ammonium nitrogen). The applied technology ensured the removal of total suspended solids, BOD5, and COD at the level of over 96%. Total phosphorus was removed with an average efficiency of 91%. Slightly lower effects were found in the elimination of total nitrogen – 78.5% on average, while the ammonium nitrogen removal rate was 88% on average. Due to the high efficiency of the facility, the values of the standard contamination indicators at the outflow, as a rule, met the requirements specified in the water permit. The technological reliability of the wastewater treatment plant in Michów, determined by the Weibull method, was at a high level, usually exceeding 90%. The reliability analysis shows that the facility in Michów has a high capacity to treat wastewater to the extent required for the wastewater receiver, and that the treated wastewater discharge does not cause negative changes in the environment. It indicates a high probability of obtaining the wastewater quality at the outflow from the treatment plant meeting the water permit requirements.

W ustawie – Prawo Wodne zapisano regulację prawną dotyczącą udoskonalenia odprowadzania ścieków do wód gruntowych.
Owners of scattered households are more often finding out building household wastewater treatment plants useful. Polish legislation has been fitted to the European Union’s law in this aspect, however there is a lack of appropriate tools to control over newly build household wastewater treatment plants. Local governments shows more financial support for those households, which are going to build household wastewater treatment plants, and at the same way making the contribution in protecting the environment. Rules of the building law, and the water law as equal are, clearly require certain responsibilities on households on the range of those types of wastewater treatment plants. Rules are making requirements for manufacturers of those wastewaters very clearly. Those must have reach minimal quality standards, every reservoir must go under proper certification. If all those parameters are going to be respected by the manufactureres and the users, so as local governments, then the environmental protection in this matter will be uphold.

The aim of this paper was to present the current state and the need for development of the sanitary infrastructure in the communes of the Ryki District located in the Lublin Voivodeship. The Ryki District encompasses 1 urban Commune – Dęblin, 1 urban-rural Commune – Ryki and 4 rural communes: Kłoczew, Nowodwór, Stężyca and Ułęż. The paper is based on the data from the surveys conducted in all the afore-mentioned communes in 2016. In the whole district on average 71.3% of the population used the water supply network, while 42% of the inhabitants were able to discharge wastewater to the sewage system. Within the area of the Ryki District, 5 collective wastewater treatment plants with a capacity exceeding 5 m3/d functioned in 2016. The households which were not connected to the sewage network discharged wastewater mainly to non-return tanks. About 440 household sewage treatment plants were found in the surveyed communes. The overwhelming majority of such small objects in the discussed district were activated sludge systems (92%). The research carried out in 2016 proved a strong need to develop the current state of the sanitary infrastructure in the Ryki District. A particular emphasis should be placed on the wastewater management by connecting the inhabitants of urban areas to a joint sewage disposal system. Ecological awareness must be raised so as to encourage people to invest in household wastewater treatment plants, which should be used in the areas with scattered development.

The aim of this paper was to present the current state and the need for development of the sanitary infrastructure in the communes of the Bialski District located in the Lublin Voivodeship. The Bialski District encompasses 2 urban communes: Miedzyrzec Podlaski and Terespol and 17 rural communes: Biała Podlaska, Drelów, Janów Podlaski, Kodeń, Konstantynów, Leśna Podlaska, Łomazy, Międzyrzec Podlaski, Piszcząc, Rokitno, Rossosz, Sławatycze, Sosnówka, Terespol, Tuczna, Wisznice and Zalesie. The present paper uses the data from the surveys conducted in these communes in 2016. On average, 79.2% of the population used the water supply system in the surveyed communes, while 39.4% of the inhabitants had the possibility of discharging wastewater to the sewerage system. In the area of the communes, there were 20 collective, mechanical and biological wastewater treatment plants with a capacity exceeding 5 m3/d. The households which were not connected to the wastewater network, discharged wastewater mainly to non-return tanks. In the surveyed communes, there were 4437 household wastewater treatment plants. Most of them (above 80%) were the systems with infiltration drainage, which do not ensure high efficiency of pollutants removal and may even contribute to the degradation of the groundwater quality. In order to solve the existing problems of wastewater and water management occurring in the communes where the Bialski District is located, it is necessary to further develop collective wastewater systems and equip the areas characterized by dispersed housing with highly efficient household treatment plants, e.g. constructed wetlands.

wastewater reuse
Opis:
Once freshwater has been used for an economic or beneficial purpose, it is generally discarded as waste. In many countries, these wastewaters are discharged, either as untreated waste or as treated effluent, into natural watercourses, from which they are abstracted for further use after undergoing "self-purification" within the stream. Through this system of indirect reuse, wastewater may be reused up to a dozen times or more before being discharged to the sea. Such indirect reuse is common in the larger river systems of Latin America. However, more direct reuse is also possible: the technology to reclaim wastewaters as potable or process waters is a technically feasible option for agricultural and some industrial purposes (such as for cooling water or sanitary flushing), and is a largely experimental option for the supply of domestic water. Wastewater reuse for drinking raises public health, and possibly religious, concerns among consumers. The adoption of wastewater treatment and subsequent reuse as a means of supplying freshwater is also determined by economic factors. Human excreta and wastewater contains useful materials. These are water, organic carbon and nutrients and should be regarded as a resource. In their natural cycles, they are broken down by micro-organisms and become accessible to plants and animals, thus sustaining natural ecosystems. When improperly disposed, these substances can cause pollution. This is because the organic materials exert oxygen demand, and the nutrients promote algal growth in lakes, rivers and near-shore marine environments. Human excreta and wastewater also contain pathogens. Reuse of the wastes must ensure that public health is maintained. Planned reuse is the key to wastewater reuse. Planning for reuse ensures that public health and protection of the environment are taken into account. Reuse of treated wastewater for irrigation of crops, for example, will need to meet (i) standards for indicator pathogens, and (ii) plant requirement for water, nitrogen and phosphorus. WHO and others have developed standards for reuse of wastewater for various purposes. Further details of these standards can be found in the Regional Overviews in the Source Book, published by IWA and IETC. It must be pointed out, however, that requirements for water and nutrients are plant-specific and site-specific (dependent on soil type and climate), and information on these requirements need to be obtained from local information sources.

Stwierdzono różnice w ilości związków organicznych w ściekach mleczarskich w okresie letnim i jesiennym. Zdecydowanie wyższymi wartościami wskaźników BZT5 i ChZT charakteryzowały się ścieki w okresie wegetacyjnym.
Purpose of the study was to demonstrate the variability of dairy wastewater flowing into municipal WWTP per day and in different seasons. Research was carried out on effluent from Olecko milk processing plant located in north-eastern Poland. Characteristics of milk processing plant sewage discharge to the municipal treatment plant and the amount and loads of dairy and municipal wastewater was presented. The analysis of the qualitative composition of dairy wastewater was carried out in June and November 2014 year. Every month 4 series of measurements were performed and dairy effluent samples were analyzed 8 times a day. Based on the test results the relationship between indicators of organic pollutants and nutrients was determined. The results were compared with those presented in literature. Dairy wastewater from Olecko is characterized by varying composition during the day, which may negatively affect the purification process of municipal wastewater. There were differences in the amount of organic compounds in the dairy wastewater in summer and autumn. Significantly higher values of BOD5 and COD indicators were found in the sewage during the vegetation season.

Wastewater treatment in semi-natural systems, such as a hydroponic lagoon operating as the third stage of treatment, is becoming more and more popular because of the efficiency of organic matter and nutrient removal. The article presents an analysis of the efficiency of pollutant removal at the mechanical-biological wastewater treatment plant in Gronów with a capacity of Qd = 1125m3/day and a load of 9375 PE. The wastewater treatment plant operates on the basis of activated sludge and biomass settling technology on submerged flow beds. The treatment plant is characterized by a very high variability of wastewater inflow during the year due to periodic inflow of wastewater from tourist resorts in Łagów. The average efficiency of removing pollutants from wastewater was: BOD5 - 98.5%, COD - 92.8%, total suspended solids - 93.2%, total nitrogen - 86.1% and total phosphorus - 69.5%. The study showed that the use of a hydroponic lagoon in the technological system improved the efficiency of wastewater treatment by 1.7% for BOD5, 0.9% - COD, total suspended solids by 4.3%, 6.4% for total nitrogen and total phosphorus - 3.3%.

Nowadays there is a search for new alternatives to replace harsh and expensive chemical methods to wastewater treatments. The common methods include the usage of chemicals that negatively affect the environment and the human health. The cladodes of Opuntia ficus-indica (L.) Mill have a great potential for use in innovative, cheap, renewable and eco-friendly water treatment due to their flocculant properties. In this work, different water treatments including fresh cladodes, lyophilized cladodes and the material obtained through mucilage extraction were tested. The turbidity of the water was measured, and it was concluded that the use of 60 g of small pieces of fresh cut cladodes was the method with the best results, reaching 4 NTU of turbidity. It confirmed the ability of O. ficus-indica (L.) Mill cladodes to promote the flocculation of clay in water, enabling to turn the unused material waste into a useful raw material.

Electricity generation was not signifi cantly affected by the azo dye at 300 mg/L, while higher concentrations inhibited electricity generation. The chemical oxygen demand (COD) removal and decolorization of dye containing wastewater used in the MFC were studied at optimum operation conditions in anode and cathode, 57% COD removal and 70% dye removal were achieved. This study also demonstrated the effect of different catholyte solutions, such as KMnO4 and K2Cr2O7 on electricity generation. As a result, KMnO4 solution showed the maximum electricity generation due to its higher standard reduction potential.

The present paper provides the methodology for the environmental monitoring of natural and engineering wastewater systems, which involves the determination of the dichotomous fractal structure of the measuring network, the boundaries of the range and the density of pollution on the Peano and Koch curves, based on the data of the measuring network and the corresponding interpolation and smoothing algorithms, as well as determination of the dynamics of the pollution range using the Bayesian theorem. On the basis of the theory of fractals and the theory of sets, the developed algorithms for monitoring allow determining the structure of the measuring network taking into account the features of the controlled range and the sets of fractal isolines of any configuration with a given accuracy of reflection, which allows predicting the change in the composition of the effluent that comes to the reservoirs from the landscapes and improving the functioning of the equipment and environmental safety of water in general. The established dependence of biogas productivity on the different methods for destruction of the active sludge microorganisms allows determining that the maximum output of biogas occurs when applying the chemical destruction of part of the sludge.

Opis:
The paper discusses technological reliability of a collective wastewater treatment plant (WTP). The WTP capacity expressed as population equivalents (PE) was 22,500. The research was conducted in 2013 and 2014 and it involved the collection and physical and chemical analysis of 101 samples of raw and treated sewage. Reliability analysis was based on Weibull reliability theory. Reliability of retaining organic compounds defined as BOD5 was 68%, and for biogenic compounds, such as total nitrogen and total phosphorus, it was 92% and 88%, respectively.
