Observing the transformations taking place in the world, it is important to note the need for continuous reference in various areas of human life to Mary, whose example is always relevant. Therefore, the purpose of this article is to present Mary as a model of faith and moral life for the contemporary disciples of Christ. Mary – with her example – teaches one how to be a disciple of Christ in an authentic way, not superficial one. She is an example of understanding the Christian life as a commitment. Looking to Mary as an example, the individual learns to obey God in the path of faith and finds the values that lead him or her through the paths of the Christian moral life. Life permeated with the Marian spirit becomes an inspiration for the contemporary disciples of Christ to grow in faith, to do good and radically reject everything which is in contrary to the Christian ideal.

Protecting of human life from conception until to natural death is part of the ongoing spiritual struggle between the culture of death and the civilization of love. The destruction of life is the fruit of the negation of God and the attempt to take over the work of creation. The tool in the hands of believers is the prayer that brings man to God and contemplates his work of creation and salvation in Christ and elevating the human person to the dignity of the child of God. The exhortation of the Gospel of life promoted by St John Paul II in the encyclical Evangelium vitae leads to perception of its value and prevents the banishment of human behavior in the face of suffering.

Многоаспектность концепции феноменологии жизни авторства Анны Тересы Тыменецкой позволяет присутствующую в ней проблематику человеческой истории обсуждать в многомер-ном ракурсе. Областью своих исследований мыслитель сделала человеческую жизнь, дав ей широкий спектр значений: жизненное, которое является частью всей жизни в целом, интеллек-туальное и социально-нравственное, как свойственные человеку, но всё время выступающие в природном мире, и далее сакральное, которое выражает духовный уровень существования и определяет перспективу его полной реализации на горизонте вне условий природы. Здесь вырисовывается видение прогресса человеческой истории и её будущего, которое явится как процесс самоиндивидуализации человека в жизни и которое, с точки зрения феноменологии жизни, означает процесс самоинтерпретации человека в жизни.
The multithreading of Anna Teresa Tymieniecka’s concept of phenomenology of life makes it possible that the problem of human history can be and should be multidimensionally discussed. The thinker made human life her own interrogative area, giving life to multiple ranges of meaning: the vital which is included in the whole life in general, the intellectual and the socio-moral as peculiar to human being, but still realizing itself on a natural plane, and then the sacral which explicates a spiritual level of human existence and sets a perspective of its fulfillment in the horizon which transcends conditions of nature. There is a vision of human history and its progress, which appears as the human being’s process of self-individualization in life which here indicates as the man’s self-interpretation in existence.

The personal experience of trust and solidarity indicates a deep interpenetration of the content contained in these terms. The main research assumption of this article (above all axiological) is the claim that we can not talk about of solidarity in isolation from authentic trust between a person and a person. We trust only reliable people. We trust people with clear moral principles and people who recognize and profess the true values necessary to build a meaningful life. It is known that it is very difficult to give someone trust, who is morally unstable, who fails, who is not faithful to constant and universally binding moral norms. The author of the article tries to justify the thesis that the ethics of solidarity is based on the ethics of trust and that trust and solidarity are basic values in social life, constituting the basis for building a genuine community.

Climate change has become a popular topic with a strong presence in media, political, scientific and ethical debates. This raises a question as to why we are not acting in accordance with our knowledge and are unable to do enough to protect our future. The paper argues that the problem partly arises from a lack of philosophical reflection about relations between different aspects of our personalities. Those different aspects are presented based on the reflections of Thomas Nagel on good, moral, and rational ways of life. I claim that all three need to be taken into consideration in order to answer challenge raised by the environmental dangers we are facing.

Patologie występujące w sferze finansów są trafnym odzwierciedleniem organizacji społeczeństwa nie tylko w kontekście wielkich skandali i zapaści powodowanych przez instytucje finansowe, bezwzględnych oszustów czy chciwych menedżerów, ale także od strony udziału zwykłych obywateli w deregulacji rynku. Drobne wykroczenia i nadużycia nie są tak spektakularne jak zorganizowane oszustwa, ale popełniane w skali masowej oddziałują negatywnie na rynek i instytucje społeczne. Celem artykułu jest analiza zaburzeń systemu moralnej regulacji konsumentów w obszarze relacji finansowych oraz empiryczna identyfikacja struktury tych zaburzeń i czynników im sprzyjających. W perspektywie teoretycznej analiza bazuje na koncepcji moralności ekonomicznej (Thompson 1971) oraz teorii anomii instytucjonalnej odnoszonej do codziennych nadużyć (Karstedt, Farrall 2006). Część empiryczna ukierunkowana została na badanie moralności finansowej traktowanej jako konstrukt złożony z dwóch komponentów: oceny nadużyć dokonywanych przez konsumentów oraz percepcji instytucjonalnej deregulacji na rynku finansowym, a także próby uchwycenia zależności między tymi komponentami. Badanie zrealizowano techniką telefonicznego sondażu, przeprowadzonego na ogólnopolskiej, reprezentatywnej 1000-osobowej próbie dorosłych konsumentów.
Pathologies in the financial sphere accurately reflect the organization of society, not only in the context of the major scandals and collapses caused by financial institutions, ruthless crooks, or greedy managers, but also with respect to the participation of normal citizens in market deregulation. Petty crime and unfair practices are not so spectacular as organized swindles, but committed en mass they negatively affect the market and social institutions. The aim of this paper is to analyze the disturbances in the system of moral regulation of consumers in the financial sphere, and to identify empirically the structure of these disturbances and their facilitators. The theoretical framework of the analysis is based on the concept of a moral economy (Thompson 1971) and the institutional anomie theory of everyday crime (Karstedt, Farrall 2006). The empirical part is oriented toward the study of financial morality of consumers, treated as a construct comprised of two components: evaluation of everyday crimes committed by consumers and the perception of the institutional deregulation in the financial market. This work is also an attempt to capture the relationship between these components. The study was conducted using a telephone survey on a Polish nationwide representative sample of 1000 adult consumers.

Niniejszy artykuł, opisując pojęcie cnoty i jej miejsce w formowaniu dojrzałości osoby, wskazuje na społeczny wymiar sprawności moralnych, które znajdują swe reperkusje w relacjach międzyludzkich. Cnota stanowi kapitał społeczny przez to, że wyzwala w człowieku określone mechanizmy uzdalniające go do zaangażowania się w realizację dobra wspólnego. Staje się ona szczególnym spoiwem ludzkich relacji, gdy zapewnia człowiekowi warunki do nawiązywania egzystencjalnych więzi z innymi oraz kształtuje osobowy sposób przeżywania i reagowania na pojawiające się wyzwania. Cztery cnoty kardynalne: roztropność, sprawiedliwość, męstwo i umiarkowanie tworzą spójną kwadrygę postaw, które warunkują zdolność panowania nad sobą i możność odpowiedzialnego udzielania się na rzecz innych. Najwyższym przejawem kapitału społecznego jest miłość, dzięki której człowiek jest gotowy oddać życie w służbie bliźniego.
The present article, describing the concept of virtue and its place in the formation of a person’s maturity, points to the social dimension of moral competences that have their repercussions in interpersonal relations. Virtue is a social capital thanks to the fact that it triggers definite mechanisms in a man, enabling him to get involved in the realization of the common good. It becomes a special cement of human relations when it ensures proper conditions for forming existential bonds with others and it shapes a personal way of experiencing the challenges that one encounters and of responding to them. The four cardinal virtues: prudence, justice, courage and temperance make up a cohesive quartet of attitudes that determine one’s ability to control himself and the possibility to help others in a responsible way. The supreme manifestation of the social capital is love, owing to which a man is prepared to give his life in the service of his neighbor.

The author shows both how to accept the reply proposed by the new evangelization which challenges the present and how to carry it out as part of various catechetical activities of the Church in Poland. First, through the analysis of fundamental papal documents, he determines the character of the new evangelization. Then, he presents a reply of the new evangelization to contemporary problems with reference to Lineamenta prepared for the Synod of Bishops in 2012. He also explains how the catechesis can merge with the new evangelization, and analyses the tasks of catechesis, as described in the General Directory for Catechesis and adapted to Polish conditions.

Every man carries within himself a natural disposition to the attitude of hope. It is a particularly precious gift, because it contains a call to man, demanding from him total trust in God. The acceptance of this gift and following its call opens the way to the fullness of Christian life. Theological virtue of hope also helps to define the boundaries of human involvement in worldly matters and supports the maturation for the definitive encounter with Christ. Therefore, it stands at the core of human reference to the world and to the ultimate things. It plays an important role in shaping the hierarchy of values. Practicing hope has a significant influence on the entire moral life of the Christian. This vision of hope and of the necessity of living with such hope was presented by Pope Benedict XVI in his encyclical "Spe Salvi".

A growing ecumenical awareness among Christian theologians and ethicists has found in John Paul II’s moral encyclical Veritatis Splendor a fresh impetus for a development of common studies of moral issues. Not few mainly Protestant ethicists expressed their comments on the way the Pope discusses and defines fundamental problems of Christian moral teaching. Some of those comments were apparently positive, at times even enthusiastic (e.g. R. Benne, S. Hauerwas, O. O’Donovan, J.B. Elshtain), while others displayed a mixed reaction to the papal teaching (e.g. L.S. Mudge. G. Meilaender, M. Banner). There were also some authors who approached Veritatis Splendor critically, some even rejected it altogether (e.g. N.P. Harvey, R. Preston, H. Oppenheimer).
Wraz z coraz głębszym zrozumieniem prawdy o tym, że „kto podziela jedną wiarę w Chrystusa, winien dzielić także jedno życie w Chrystusie” (ARCIC II, Life in Christ), tematyka moralna znajduje dla siebie coraz więcej miejsca w dialogu ekumenicznym. Zarazem chrześcijanie różnych tradycji mają coraz większą świadomość konieczności dawania wspólnego świadectwa wobec świata, także co do życia moralnego uczniów Chrystusa. Szczególnym źródłem dla ekumenicznych debat nad fundamentalnymi problemami chrześcijańskiego nauczania moralnego stała się encyklika Jana Pawła II Veritatis splendor. Liczne grono etyków i teologów, głównie protestanckich (luterańskich, anglikańskich, metodystycznych i innych), dało wyraz swoim przekonaniom, odnosząc się do podstawowych bądź bardziej szczegółowych zagadnień, przedstawionych w tym dokumencie. Wiele spośród tych opinii ma charakter pozytywny, niekiedy nawet entuzjastyczny (np. S. Hauerwas, O. O’Donovan, J.B. Elhstain, R. Benne), podczas gdy inne jawią się jako dwuznaczne – wskazują na aspekty godne pochwały, ale i ze swego punktu widzenia formułują oceny krytyczne (np. L.S. Mudge. G. Meilaender, M. Banner). Są i tacy, którzy papieską wizję chrześcijańskiego życia moralnego wręcz odrzucają, często jednak nie podając poważnych racji (np. N.P. Harvey, R. Preston, H. Oppenheimer). Te zróżnicowane komentarze potwierdzają jednocześnie, że także dla niekatolików Veritatis splendor stała się szczególnie godnym uwagi dokumentem nauczania katolickiego, obok którego nie można przejść obojętnie.

The connection between personal story and morality has been long enunciated, but remains under-researched. Combining moral and narrative theory, this article approaches this relation by introducing a line of narrative inquiry oriented towards the exploration of how ethical intentions with regard to the good life manifest in and shape the biographical storyline and the self narratively assembled. The analysis encompasses a first case-based stage focused on the examination of the main motive of the personal story and its effects upon the organization of both self and narrative, followed by a comparative phase in which storylines and moral motives that work as reference of a set of biographical accounts belonging to different social positions, temporalities, or geographies are contrasted in order to establish linkages, breaks, and transformations in the relation between identity and morality across cases. This line of inquiry is applied into a research about intergenerational changes and continuities in the relation between selfhood and morality, based on life stories conducted with Chilean people of successive generations. In the conclusions, this strategy of narrative analysis is assessed in the light of current development of this field of qualitative social research.

The paper discusses the idea of quality of social life in classical and contemporary European thought. It was inspired by Mismeasuring our lives: Why GDP doesn’t add up by J.E. Stiglitz, J.-P. The paper also discusses the idea of permanent self-sustaining development, relations between economic activity and social welfare, and methods used to measure quality of life. The conclusion contains analysis of contemporary dimension of moral philosophy.  In this context the quality of life seems as important as economic growth.

This paper explores parental (particularly mothers’) support in the daily lives of children with allergies in a Swedish context. An ordinary life is established by making comparisons to what other children without allergies presumably can do (and eat). Although the parents’ goal is to support their child in managing allergies, neither their practical nor their interactional strategies work in a clear-cut direction to promote the child’s ordinary life and identity. On the contrary, parents’ accounts convey that they function just as much against an everyday life and the child’s identity. When managing family relations, parents expect immediate family members (specifically grandparents) to understand and accommodate the child’s needs.  However, claims of family responsibility are made through moral tales about lack of support from “generalized others.” Family responsibility is also downplayed in parents’ accounts as demands of support may put parents’ moral self at risk. The strategy of information control in certain situations and (non-family) relations used to keep the child safe may risk stigmatizing the child, alternatively, making the child into a social threat. One of the conclusions that could be drawn from this study is that claims of family support may be contradictory to other cultural principles that ascribe responsibilities between families and individuals, as the principles of individual freedom and autonomy.

Faith is one of fundamental attitudes in man’s life. Thus, authentic faith cannot be separated in any way from man’s ethos understood as all his moral actions and attitudes. It cannot be isolated as well from an accepted hierarchy of moral values and one’s own vision as a man. Pope Francis’ encyclical Lumen fidei clearly speaks about the value of faith. For the pope faith is a personal meeting with God as Person. It gives the right meaning of human life and it determines a significant scale of values. On its deepest level, faith is an important element having an influence on the whole moral life. It transforms the hearts of men shaping the community of the Church and thus it becomes a school of true Christian moral life labelled with man’s attitudes and behaviour. Only such a faith, nurtured from childhood in the family can become the centre of man’s existence and can affect the life reaching a high moral level.
