Opis:
Bolza problem governed by PDE control systems with unbounded controls is considered. The motivating example is fluid structure interaction model with boundary-interface controls. The aim of the work is to provide optimal feedback synthesis associated with well denned gain operator constructed from the Riccati equation. The dynamics considered is of mixed parabolic-hyperbolic type which prevents applicability of tools developed earlier for analytic semigroups. It is shown, however, that the control operator along with the generator of the semigroup under consideration satisfy singular estimate referred to as Revisited Singular Estimate (RSE). This estimate, which measures "unboundedness" of control actions, is a generalization and a weaker form of Singular Estimate (SE) treated in the past literature. The main result of the paper provides Riccati theory developed for this new class of control systems labeled as RSECS (Revisited Singular Estimate Control Systems). The important feature is that the gain operator, constructed via Riccati operator, is consistent with the optimal feedback synthesis. The gain operator, though unbounded, has a controlled algebraically singularity at the terminal point. This enables one to establish well-posedness of the Riccati solutions and of the optimal feedback representation. An application of the theoretical framework to boundary control of a fluid-structure interaction model is given.

Full- film hydrodynamic lubrication of marine propulsion shafting journal bearings in running condition is discussed. Considerable computational difficulties in non-linear determining the quasi-static equilibrium of the shafting are highlighted. To overcome this problem the approach using two optimization methods (the particle swarm method and the interior point method) in combination with the specially developed relaxation technique is proposed. The developed algorithm allows to calculate marine propulsion shafting bending with taking into account lubrication in all journal bearings and exact form of journal inside bearings, compared to results of most of the publications which consider lubrication only in the aft most stern tube bearing and assume rest of bearings to be represented by points. The calculation results of typical shafting design with four bearings are provided. The significance of taking into account lubrication in all bearings is shown, specifically more exact values of bearings’ reactions, shafting deflections, minimum film thickness and maximum hydrodynamic pressure in the stern tube bearing in case of considering lubrication in all bearings.

Opis:
Transient flows in closed conduits are of interest from over a century, but the dynamic interaction between the fluid and the pipe is taken into consideration more thoroughly just from a few decades. A standard model of the phenomenon consists of fourteen first order partial differential equations (PDE), two for a one-dimensional (1D) liquid flow and twelve for 3D pipe motion. In many practical cases however, a simpler four equations (4E) model can be used, where 1D longitudinal pipe movement is assumed. A short description of waterhammer event with fluidstructure interaction taken into account is presented in the article. The 4E mathematical model is presented in detail with the assumptions and main algorithms of computer program that has been developed. Two phase flow is assumed not to take place, but the friction between the liquid and the pipe wall are taken into consideration. A method of characteristics (MOC) with time marching procedure is employed for finding the solutions, but instead of direct solving the resulting finite difference equations (FDE) the “wave method” is proposed. Some other important elements of the algorithm are presented and selected results of numerical computations as well.

Hydraulic power systems are widely used in heavy machinery. Safety of such a systems have a major importance due to the fact that any failure may cause environmental contamination or serious injury. One of the component which protects hydraulic drive systems against excessive rising of working pressure is a safety valve which aim is to maintain pressure in the systems below acceptable level. Pressure control valves which plays important role in a hydraulic systems may have very simple or complex structure. Even in case of the simplest structure of such valve modeling is not an easy task. The new quality in designing hydraulic valves bring CFD method and FSI (Fluid Structure Interaction) methods.

In the classic water hammer (WH) theory, 1D liquid flow in a quasi-rigid pipe is assumed. When the pipe is flexible or is fixed to the foundation with elastic supports, the dynamic fluid structure interaction (FSI) should be taken into account for more accurate modelling of the system behaviour. The standard model of WH-FSI for a straight pipe reach is governed by fourteen hyperbolic partial differential equations of the first order, two for 1D liquid flow and twelve for 3D motion of the pipe. This model is presented in the paper and an algorithm for its numerical solution based of the method of characteristics is proposed. Basic boundary conditions (BC) are shortly discussed. The important condition at the junction of two subpipes fixed to the foundation with a viscoelastic support is presented in details and a general method of its solution is proposed.

Opis:
A novel type of an axial, piston-driven high pressure hydraulic pump with variable capacity marks a significant improvement in the area of the hydraulic machinery design. Total discharge from hydrostatic forces eliminates a need for a servomechanism, thus simplifying operation, reducing weight and introducing the possibility of the pump displacement control by computer. PWK-type pumps, invented in the Gdansk University of Technology, offer high efficiency for pressure levels up to 55 MPa, ability to work self sucking even at high speed. However, the heart of the new invention, the commutation unit, creates harmful pressure peaks. Those peaks can be mitigated by the introduction of a compensation chamber with elastic walls. Owing to the dynamic character of events taking place in the pump, a need for computer simulation arouse in order to understand phenomena leading to the occurrence of pressure peaks and choose compensation chamber parameters accordingly. A CFD package alone would not be sufficient to reliably represent the interaction between the compensation chamber wall and the working fluid. This paper presents Fluid Structure Interaction approach comparing 3 different models: 2 simplified models of the pump and a full pump model.
Zaprezentowane w artykule podejście ukazuje oddziaływania miedzy cieczą a struktura pompy na przykładzie 3 różnych modeli: dwóch uproszczonych i pełnego modelu pompy.

Opis:
The use of fluid transients has the potential to provide insight into effect of leaks in pipeline systems and hence provide leak detection method. This paper presents a technique for detection and location of leaks in a single pipe by means of transient analysis. The method uses transient pressure waves initiated by the sudden closure of an upstream valve. The presence of a leak in a pipe partially reflects these pressure waves and allows for the location and magnitude of leaks. The two constitutive equations of continuity and momentum yield a set of two partial differential equations of hyperbolic type. The computed results obtained by the method of characteristics describe the influence of the leak on head and discharge time-histories. To put in evidence the fluid-structure, interaction the influence of friction and Young modulus of the pipe wall on the leak detection and sizing is also discussed.

The design of lifting blade shapes is a key engineering application, especially in domains such as those of marine propellers, hydrofoils, and tidal energy converters. In particular, the excitation frequency must be different from that of the structure to avoid resonance. The natural frequency in the cases where the fluid–structure interaction (FSI) is considerably different if considering the coupling added mass (AM) of the water. In this study, vibration experiments were performed using a real propeller in air and water. The modal parameters, natural frequencies, and mode shapes were determined. Validations were performed using 3D solid and acoustic elements in a direct coupling finite element format. The modal results and AM ratios were in agreement with the experimental results. Convenient application and high efficiency are basic requirements for an engineering application. Therefore, an empirical formula was established for the first-order FSI natural frequency to enable rapid estimation, thereby satisfying this requirement.

In the process that the submarine-launched missile exits the water, there is the complex fluid solid coupling phenomenon. Therefore, it is difficult to establish the accurate water-exit dynamic model. In the paper, according to the characteristics of the water-exit motion, based on the traditional method of added mass, considering the added mass changing rate, the water-exit dynamic model is established. And with help of the CFX fluid simulation software, a new calculation method of the added mass that is suit for submarine-launched missile is proposed, which can effectively solve the problem of fluid solid coupling in modeling process. Then by the new calculation method, the change law of the added mass in water-exit process of the missile is obtained. In simulated analysis, for the water-exit process of the missile, by comparing the results of the numerical simulation and the calculation of theoretical model, the effectiveness of the new added mass calculation method and the accuracy of the water-exit dynamic model that considers the added mass changing rate are verified.

The boundary integral equation is used for describing the hydrodynamic pressure. The plate equation is formulated in the form of two harmonic equations. These elements are simultaneously the finite elements for the plate and the boundary elements for the liquid. A FEM-BEM coupling approach is used for acoustic fluid-structure interaction analysis. The FEM is used to model the structure and the BEM is used to model the exterior acoustic domain. The aim of this work is to improve the computational efficiency and accuracy of the conventional FEM-BEM coupling approach. The fast multipole method (FMM) is applied to accelerating the matrix-vector products in BEM. The Burton-Miller formulation is used to overcome the fictitious eigen-frequency problem when using a single Helmholtz boundary integral equation for exterior acoustic problems. The continuous higher order boundary elements and discontinuous higher order boundary elements for 2D problem are developed in this work to achieve higher accuracy in the coupling analysis. The performance for coupled element types is compared via a simple example with analytical solution, and the optimal element type is obtained. Numerical examples are presented to show the relative errors of different coupled element types.

In order to study the flow field characteristics of cushion system of partial air cushion support catamaran (PACSCAT) in waves, an analysis was carried out involving flexible treatment on the bow and stern air seals to simulate air seal shape under test conditions by means of computational fluid dynamics method and fluid structure interaction (FSI) method. On this basis, the pressure conditions of the air cushion chamber and the pressurized chamber at different wavelengths and different speeds are studied and compared with experimental results. The experimental results show that: for the air cushion pressure, the nonlinear characteristics of the numerical calculation results are more subtle than the experimental values, after linear transformation, the amplitudes of the experimental values are obviously greater than the calculated values after linear transformation, but the average values are not much different; At low speed of 2.0m/s, the spatial pressure distribution of the pressurized chamber and the air cushion chamber are uniformly distributed, at high speed of 3.6m/s, except for a certain pressure jump occurred in the air cushion chamber near the stern air seal, the pressure in other spaces is also evenly distributed, it proves that the pressurized chamber type of air intake can effectively meet the air cushion pressure balance.

In the present paper the numerical approach for the modeling of the flow past rotating geometries is presented. Practical methods for two cases are described: the one where whole domain is moving with uniform angular velocity, where the rotation might be included in the governing equations only (in the terms related to Coriolis and centrifugal forces), and the one where part of the domain is rotating, whereas another one is stationary. The second case is illustrated by examples describing the steady and transient flow around a rotating propeller and by a centrifugal pump. Simulations are performed using OpenFOAM CFD solver, with the models covering flow rotation: MRF (multiple reference frame) and AMI (arbitrary mesh interface).
