Having a place to live is one of the most important human needs. Nowadays, we are observing changes in family model and housing standard, which determine the size of households' expenditure on living conditions. More and more often people spend most of their incomes on maintaining their dwellings. The aim of the article is to present how the housing standard was changing in Poland over the years and how it influenced the volume of households' housing expenditure depending on job career and household size in Poland. Furthermore, the author presents a comparison of housing costs in Poland and other countries.

Ostatnie dwa lata pandemii przyczyniły się do zwiększenia się ubóstwa energetycznego w państwach Unii Europejskiej. Ubóstwo energetyczne jest coraz powszechniejsze, z wielu powodów, takich jak rosnące ceny paliw, węgla kamiennego, opłat emisji CO2. Ubóstwo energetyczne rozumiane jest jako sytuacja, w której koszty ogrzewania przekraczają 10% dochodów. Ubóstwo energetyczne zostało zdefiniowane przez EPEE1 jako „brak środków na utrzymanie ogrzewania na odpowiednim poziomie za uczciwą cenę”. W artykule zostaną przedstawione dane statystyczne dotyczące ubóstwa energetycznego na podstawie różnych wskaźników w latach 2018–2020 w państwach UE. Ponadto opisano aktualną politykę klimatyczno-energetyczną w UE i jej założenia oraz jej wpływ na ubóstwo energetyczne. Dodatkowo wskazane zostaną programy w państwach UE, które istotnie wpłynęły na poprawę sytuacji ubóstwa energetycznego.
The last two years of the pandemic contributed to the increase in energy poverty in the European Union. Energy poverty is becoming more and more common, for many reasons, such as rising fuel prices, hard coal, CO2 emission fees. Energy poverty is understood as a situation where heating costs exceed 10% of income. Energy poverty is defined by the EPEE as “the lack of resources to keep heating at an adequate level at a fair price”. The article will present statistical data on energy poverty based on various indicators in 2018-2020 in EU countries. In addition, the current climate and energy policy in the EU and its assumptions as well as its impact on energy poverty are described. In addition, programs in EU countries that have significantly contributed to improving the situation of energy poverty will be indicated.

Purpose: This study aims to empirically present the process of personal branding of CEOs. Building on the theoretical model proposed by Wojtaszczyk and Maszewski (2014), the study illustrates how CEOs build their personal brands. Methodology: The study is based on twelve semi-structured interviews with the CEOs of Poland’s strongest brands. Results were coded and analyzed with the use of MAXQDA software. Results: The research allowed us to understand the process of creating a personal brand by CEOs. Moreover, interviews revealed that the personal brand reflects the true self of CEOs. However, it is also adjusted to the target audience; consequently, CEOs show diverse identities to the outside world. Implications: Through the empirical investigation of the branding process, the findings fill a certain research gap. Insights gained in the process may prove useful for practitioners. Originality/value: The article explores the subject of the personal brand, which continues to be the focus of many researchers, particularly in the CEE region. This research gave voice to CEOs, who explained how they build their personal brand and shared detailed information whose scope greatly exceeds what they present in the media.

Poniższa praca przedstawia badania dotyczące możliwych różnic w sposobie przywództwa między kobietami a mężczyznami. Badanie ma charakter wstępny i ma na celu zainicjowanie dyskusji na temat wpływu płci jako czynnika wpływającego na przywództwo. Analiza danych z badania pilotażowego sugeruje, że różnice istnieją, natomiast nie odpowiada na pytanie co jest ich źródłem. Aby odpowiedzieć na to pytanie, konieczne są dalsze badania.
The following study presents preliminary research into leadership differences between men and women. This research study is preliminary in character and is intended to initiate a discussion on the impact of gender as a factor in leadership style. Data analysis from a pilot study suggests that differences do exist, but does not provide information as to their source. Further research is needed to answer that question.

Opis:
Design of novel foodstuffs rich in natural bioactive substances is one of the main research field in the food industry. There are many clinical reports on beneficial effects of either docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) or eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) on health. In general n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (n-3 PUFAs) are significant structural components of cell membranes. Since DHA and EPA represent exogenous fatty acids, their level in the human body depends on the dietary intake. Therefore there is a need to enrich food by bioactive compounds. It has been shown that the application of polyunsaturated fatty acids such as α-linolenic acid in traditional foodstuffs permits to obtain a kind of functional food that can be used to improve both health and skin condition. However low stability of natural bioactive components limits their application in food, especially on an industrial scale. Due to this fact efforts are made to prepare new functional food formula containing n-3 PUFAs in a stable form. Microencapsulation process is a well known attempt to prevent their oxidation. Preparation of food-grade microemulsions containing polyunsaturated fatty acids to improve the stability and to ensure pleasant sensory properties of food is discussed in the present study.

Research background: Despite increased attention in the literature to the importance of the CEO's brand for companies, understanding of the effect of the CEO brand on the corporate brand remains limited. To contribute to this discussion, this paper investigates different facets of the impact of the CEO brand, and particularly its media coverage, on corporate brand equity. Purpose of the article: This study investigates the relationship between the different aspects of the CEO brand's media coverage and corporate brand equity. Methods: Comprehensive media monitoring in the press and online sourcing of CEOs from the strongest Polish brands were conducted. For three years (2014-2017), media monitoring covered 81 CEOs, resulting in over 44,000 data points for this study. Regression analysis was conducted to determine whether a relationship exists between different facets of the CEO?s personal brand and company brand equity. Findings & value added: This study provides a new perspective on the relationship between the CEO and corporate brands and showcases empirical evidence of the CEO brand's relationship with corporate brand equity. It introduces two relevant and novel variables (CEO brand reach and CEO brand advertising value equivalent [AVE]) to the literature, which have been limited to the number of mentions and its sentiment. Accordingly, this study contributes to the emerging literature of CEO branding within the branding field. Contrary to expectation, the intensity of media coverage alone was not significant. Results indicate that reach and AVE of CEO media exposure are reflected in the corporate brand equity. The study also finds that negative sentiment toward a CEO?s brand negatively affects corporate brand equity. The study adds to the growing stream of literature on the role of CEO brand.

Purpose: The aim of the study is to determine the costs of maintaining a dwelling by retirees and disability pensioners compared to other households in the years 1993–2019. Design/methodology/approach: In order to determine the amount of housing costs for retirees and disability pensioners as well as for other households, the author has collected data on the costs between 1993 and 2019 based on the publication of the Central Statistical Office (now known as Statistics Poland) entitled “Budżety gospodarstw domowych” (Household budget survey). Findings: The costs related to the maintenance of a dwelling constitute the second largest group of expenses following consumption. The cost analysis in the period between 1993 and 2019 showed a constant increase in housing costs, with the largest group of costs being those related to heating. On the other hand, the highest cost growth dynamics was related to water expenditures. The housing expenditure of retirees and disability pensioners was the highest or one of the highest among all the surveyed groups of households, which results, among other things, from the lack of adjustment of the living conditions of seniors to their needs (in terms of the number of rooms, flat area or architectural solutions), as well as from the poor technical condition of the dwellings, which also translates into higher maintenance costs. Originality and value: The issue of the cost of maintaining a dwelling by seniors is not frequently discussed in the scientific literature. The main areas of research concerning the elderly in the context of housing resources are most often related to architectural maladjustments. However, the topic of increasing housing costs in senior households is an important social problem and should be the subject of more research and analysis.

Inwestycje na rynkach towarowych można podzielić na bezpośrednie i pośrednie. W przypadku inwestycji bezpośrednich najmniej kłopotliwe jest inwestowanie w metale szlachetne, ponieważ nie wymagają szczególnych warunków przechowywania. Do wspomagania decyzji inwestycyjnych na rynkach metali szlachetnych można wykorzystać metody analizy technicznej. Zasady ich stosowania są analogiczne jak w przypadku inwestowania na rynku akcji. Stąd celem niniejszej pracy jest wykorzystanie wybranych wskaźników analizy technicznej do oceny inwestycji na rynkach metali szlachetnych. Materiał empiryczny stanowią ceny spot z rynku londyńskiego, obejmujące okres od stycznia 2005 do maja 2011. Na ich podstawie zostaną wyznaczone średnie ruchome i oscylatory, co pomoże wybrać odpowiednie strategie.
Investments in commodity markets may be divided into direct and indirect ways. In the case of direct ways, investing in precious metals is the least inconvenient as they do not require special storage conditions. In order to support investment decisions in precious metals markets, methods of technical analysis may be used. As technical analysis in commodity markets is no different from that in stock markets, the aim of the paper is to apply some technical analysis indicators to investigate investments in precious metals markets. Empirical data covers London market spot prices for the period January 2005 – May 2011. This is the basis to calculate moving averages and oscillators, which can help to find the right commodity trading strategies.

Calendar effects are anomalies in the behavior of asset prices that may disprove the efficient market hypothesis. The well recognized are: day-of-the-week effect, month-of-the-year effect, holidays effect and turn-of-the-month effect. These anomalies are observed in many financial markets, most often on stock exchanges, thus studies on calendar effects usually focus on stock markets. However, the aim of the paper is searching for the anomalies in precious metals markets (the empirical data covers London daily spot prices from 2008 through 2013). This is the continuation of authors’ prior research aimed at testing weak market efficiency hypothesis for precious metals markets.

The aim of the paper was examining Granger causality between rates of return of precious metals. The study covers the period from 2008 through 2013 and includes gold, silver, platinum, and palladium. After developing statistical analysis and confirming stationarity of time series under consideration, the Granger causality test was run. Its results revealed a bilateral causation between silver and platinum rates of return. The study also detected causal relationships flowing from gold and palladium rates of return to silver returns.

Introduction/background: The residential property market is in a state of constant flux, largely a consequence of the intensive development and increasing availability of modern technologies termed PropTech. Relatively resistant to change, the real estate sector is undoubtedly undergoing a technological revolution. PropTech affects the activities of entities that create both supply and services on the real estate market. In addition, it also affects the customer. Aim of the paper: The aim of the paper is to identify the attitudes and preferences of primary apartments buyers regarding the use of modern technology (PropTech) by developers in the local residential property market. Materials and methods: The tool was Internet survey questionnaire. Originally, a face-to-face study was planned, but due to the constraints of the pandemic, it was not possible to reach respondents directly. In some cases, the “snowball” method was also used to increase the sample size. Results and conclusions: The preference surveys that have been conducted and presented are a contribution to further research work in this area. The results obtained show that the most popular solutions are those that are relatively easy to achieve and do not pose a great challenge to developers, for example. In contrast, those related to digital tools came in last place. Further questions also arise. To what extent, in a situation of relatively expensive housing, are buyers willing to pay for modern solutions. Environmental awareness, such as the use of solar energy or rainwater harvesting, may be at odds with the purchasing capacity of households. To what extent can buyers trust modern technologies without worrying about, for example, lack of energy to use appliances. These and probably other questions require further research in this area.

Introduction/background: The implementation of modern technologies in the real estate market is a phenomenon that has been observed for several years in global markets. The emergence of solutions favouring the digitalisation of the relatively change-resistant real estate sector is a response to the changing needs and preferences of customers in this market. Taking up the topic within the framework of PropTech in the local real estate market aims to contribute to the discussion in this area and to identify opportunities for the uptake of new technologies in Polish conditions. The area of real estate development activity in the residential market with regard to the use of modern technologies in the business was selected for analysis. Aim of the paper: The main aim of the paper is to analyse to what extent developers are aware of and interested in modern technologies. The 3 following goals were adopted: G1: assessment of the developers' state of knowledge in the field of modern technologies (PropTech); G2: identifying areas that, in the opinion of developers, have the greatest potential for implementing modern technologies; G3: perspectives for the use of modern technologies in the studied areas. Materials and methods: In order to achieve the intended goals, a survey questionnaire was carried out among developers on the real estate market in Poznań. Results and conclusions: As the survey shows, the development of Proptech for developers is still at a rather early stage. Despite the fact that, in their opinion, customers already have expectations in terms of modern technologies and pay attention to environmentally friendly solutions, they use the available solutions only to a small extent, as if forgetting (or not knowing) that the possibilities for implementing modern technologies are much greater and cover many more areas.
