Opis:
Organised education in Polish has existed in Australia since the middle of the last century. In terms of primary and secondary education, these extracurricular language classes are held mostly on Saturday mornings, rather than weekday af ternoons. Some schools come under local Polish organisations such as Związek Polski (Polish Association), others are part of the Polska Macierz Szkolna (Polish Educational Society). There are also many independent schools which are governed by Parent Associations. These schools continue to gain in popularity – and have particularly done so in recent years. At tertiary level, the Polish language has also been offered at the Department of International Studies at Macquarie University in Sydney since the 1980s.

W artykule przywołano i pokrótce omówiono współczesne podejścia do uczenia gramatyki języka obcego. Skupiono się na zestawieniu, przypomnieniu i skrótowym omówieniu funkcjonujących dzisiaj (częściej lub rzadziej) modeli, metod, technik i chwytów stosowanych w tym zakresie. Omówiono uczenie gramatyki polskiej Słowian, biorąc pod uwagę pokrewieństwo językowe i wynikające stąd zarówno swoiste ułatwienia, jak i utrudnienia w przyswajaniu gramatyki polskiej przez mówiących po ukraińsku czy rosyjsku.
This paper presents diverse approaches to teaching grammar in the language acquisition process. It focuses on a compilation of the models, methods, techniques, and tricks of teaching grammar. The paper concerns especially teaching Polish grammar to Slavic speakers while taking consideration of the cognation of the languages and the resulting interdependencies. This situation creates both easiness and diffi culty in grammar teaching.

Celem artykułu jest zwrócenie uwagi na ogólne przemiany, jakim podlegała glottodydaktyka polonistyczna, po wyodrębnieniu się w charakterze subdyscypliny. Koncepcje porządkujące dotychczasowy sposób myślenia o jej celach i przedmiocie badań, a także rozwój poszczególnych obszarów badawczych zaowocowały jej przeobrażeniami czy zwrotami w nowych, inspirujących kierunkach. Odniesiono się również do wybranych wydarzeń przełomowych, które miały lub mogą mieć na nią istotny wpływ. W centrum jej rozkwitu postawiono jej reprezentantów, którzy – podejmując aktualne i współcześnie ważne problemy badawcze – bezpośrednio kształtują jej nowy wizerunek w nauce.
The aim of this article is to draw attention to the general changes that teaching Polish as a foreign language underwent after its emergence as a subdiscipline. The concepts organizing the current way of thinking about its goals and research subject, as well as the development of individual research areas, have resulted in its transformations or turns in new, inspiring directions. Reference was also made to selected breakthrough events that had or may have a significant impact on it. Its representatives were placed at the center of its development. They directly shape its new image in science by addressing current and important contemporary research problems.

Didactics of foreign phonic languages in Europe is often based on the Common European Framework of References for Languages. Teaching Polish Sign Language (PSL) to hearing people is substituted by teaching them Signed Polish, which results in many obstacles in the communication process between deaf and hearing. This article concentrates on different measures to make communication possible and emphasizes the need of teaching PSL to hearing people using standards of Common European Framework of References for Languages.

An increasing number of immigrants arrive in our country, not all of whom treat Poland only as a transit stop on their way to wealthier countries of the Western Europe. What this means for the Polish society, with its cultural and linguistic homogeneity, is a direct confrontation with cultural and religious otherness, represented by the settling newcomers. Unfortunately, the educational establishments are not sufficiently prepared to take in new students with migration backgrounds. The entire situation also poses an enormous challenge for polonistic glottodidactics, actively present in the process of acculturation of the foreigners. The undertaken actions are primarily focused on organising and conducting classes in Polish as a second language. An important element to ensure the proper execution of the discussed process is the education of teachers, the presentation of which is a principal goal of this text.

Opis:
The objective of the article is to present the achievements of genre studies that might be used in teaching Polish as a foreign language. Assuming that genres of speech are products of particular cultures, while teaching Polish to foreigners we should familiarize them with genre patterns typical of native users of Polish. A description of a genre pattern, based on a concept developed by Maria Wojtak, includes four aspects: structural, pragmatic, cognitive and stylistic. Realization of genre utterances may take the form of a canon variant, and alternative or adaptive variants. A few popular handbooks of Polish to foreigners have been analyzed in terms of presentation of genre patterns. In most works, teaching structural and stylistic aspects prevail, whereas less attention is paid to pragmatic or ontological description.
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie osiągnięć genologii, które mogłyby zostać wykorzystane w glottodydaktyce polonistycznej. Wychodząc z założenia, że gatunki są wytworami kultury, ucząc cudzoziemców języka polskiego, należy zapoznawać ich z wzorcami gatunkowymi typowymi dla rodzimych użytkowników polszczyzny. Opis wzorca, zgodnie z koncepcją Marii Wojtak, obejmuje cztery aspekty opisu: strukturalny, pragmatyczny, poznawczy i stylistyczny. Realizacje wypowiedzi gatunkowych mogą przybierać formę wariantu kanonicznego, wariantów alternacyjnych lub adaptacyjnych. W artykule przeanalizowano kilka popularnych podręczników do nauki jpjo pod kątem nauczania gatunków wypowiedzi. W większości prac przeważa nauczanie aspektu strukturalnego i stylistycznego wzorca, z mniejszą uwagą zwróconą na aspekt pragmatyczny i ontologiczny opisu.

According to its original purpose film providing entertainment since its invention but this function od movie does not eliminate its function utility film in education. Especially the film like no other media does not reflect reality as well and still makes people happy watching it. The article presents practical ways to use film in teaching Polish as a foreign language with concrete proposals films and grammar exercises, vocabulary, communication.

The article is an attempt to look at the ludic terchniques of teaching grammar of the Polish language as a foreign language. On the basis of long practice and huge experience, the author fishes out some of the most interesting and helpful techniques when working with students. It consists of a set of clues of how to use materials accessible in the Internet, newspapers and textbooks in order to adjust them to one’s own teaching targets and also how to create unique teaching toolbox. The article encourages the Polish language lectors both to search for new and individual ways of teaching grammar to adjust them to the needs, expectations, language level and predisposition of students.

The fi rst part of the paper is dedicated to the historical background of teaching Polish as a foreign language. It also takes into consideration teaching Polish after 1989 in the widely understood East. The most important points to be considered are: “Bristol” Association set up and the Commission for the Certifi cation of Profi ciency in Polish as a Foreign Language activities. The second part focuses on the history of theoretical thought, in particular: scientific conferences, activities of the Institute of Applied Linguistics and the Department of Applied Linguistic for Teaching Polish as a Foreign Language in the Institute for Polish Diaspora Research at the Jagiellonian University, the fi rst educational programs, dictionaries and grammars based on the language study. The third part of the article presents an overview of textbooks: from so called “Warsaw” textbooks, throughout the “green series” of the Jagiellonian University , the series of Universitas publishing house, to contemporary publishing achievements, including book items of private language schools. Methodology based on theoretical assumptions of world languages glottodidactics has evolved into communication method with its contemporary culmination: task based approach. The final part of the article presents Polish language glottodidactic trends in the coming years.

Discourse markers (DMs), represented by words and phrases such as but, you know, moreover, have for many years been a widely discussed topic in linguistics in Poland and abroad. However, no attention has been paid yet to DMs in teaching Polish as a foreign language (PFL). The paper explores this neglected issue by analysing the modes of presentation of DMs in the three most popular series of textbooks for teaching PFL (levels A1-B1). The textbooks were analysed manually to identify DMs and the ways in which they are taught. The results show that the textbooks differ in the number of DMs appearing in them. However, four common problematic aspects of the instruction of DMs in the analysed textbooks were identified: translation of DMs, usage of homographs of DMs, the mechanical nature of exercises and lack of sufficient input
