Opis:
Various real-world problem areas, such as engineering, physics, chemistry, biology, economics, social, and other problems can be modeled with mathematics to be more easily studied and done calculations. One mathematical model that is very well known and is often used to solve various problem areas in the real world is multiple linear regression. One of the stages of working on multiple linear regression models is the preparation of normal equations which is a system of linear equations using the least-squares method. If more independent variables are used, the more linear equations are obtained. So that other mathematical tools that can be used to simplify and help to solve the system of linear equations are matrices. Based on the properties and operations of the matrix, the linear equation system produces a symmetric covariance matrix. If the covariance matrix is also positive definite, then the Cholesky decomposition method can be used to solve the system of linear equations obtained through the least-squares method in multiple linear regression. Based on the background of the problem outlined, such that this paper aims to construct a multiple linear regression model using Cholesky decomposition. Then, the application is used in the numerical simulation and real case.

Opis:
Linear regression analysis has become a fundamental tool in experimental sciences. We propose a new method for parameter estimation in linear models. The 'Generalized Ordered Linear Regression with Regularization' (GOLRR) uses various loss functions (including the o-insensitive ones), ordered weighted averaging of the residuals, and regularization. The algorithm consists in solving a sequence of weighted quadratic minimization problems where the weights used for the next iteration depend not only on the values but also on the order of the model residuals obtained for the current iteration. Such regression problem may be transformed into the iterative reweighted least squares scenario. The conjugate gradient algorithm is used to minimize the proposed criterion function. Finally, numerical examples are given to demonstrate the validity of the method proposed.

Opis:
In this article, two-parameter estimators in linear model with multicollinearity are considered. An alternative efficient two-parameter estimator is proposed and its properties are examined. Furthermore, this was compared with the ordinary least squares (OLS) estimator and ordinary ridge regression (ORR) estimators. Also, using the mean squares error criterion the proposed estimator performs more efficiently than OLS estimator, ORR estimator and other reviewed two-parameter estimators. A numerical example and simulation study are finally conducted to illustrate the superiority of the proposed estimator.

The notion of observation depth in multidimensional samples introduced by Tukey has become a new tool for data analysis. Applying the measure of observation depth in the sample the difficulties related to organisation of multidimensional observation are overcome. The notion of data depth has been developed extensively by many researchers from the perspective of its suitability for statistical description of singledimensional and multidimensional data. In the subject literature different criteria and methods for determining the observation depth in the sample can be found. The paper presents the definition of the observation depth in the sample and the related notions. The application of depth in linear regression for a two-dimensional case was presented.

In our researches signature was captured by Topaz SigLite T-LBK750-HSB device, where some dynamic features of signature can be also registered. In many transactions, the electronic verification of a person's identity is beneficial, hence it inspires the development of a wide range of automatic identification systems. In this paper the system that automatically authenticates documents based on the owner's handwritten signature is presented.

Opis:
Regression methods are used for the valuation of real estate in the comparative approach. The basis for the valuation is a data set of similar properties, for which sales transactions were concluded within a short period of time. Large and standardized databases, which meet the requirements of the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, are created in Poland and used by the banks involved in mortgage lending, for example. We assume that in the case of large data sets of transactions, it is more advantageous to build local regression models than a global model. Additionally, we propose a local feature selection via regularization. The empirical research carried out on three data sets from real estate market confirmed the effectiveness of this approach. We paid special attention to the model quality assessment using cross-validation for estimation of the residual standard error.

Opis:
One of the most dangerous field problems in the civil engineering discipline is the suddenly developed cracks in the building, which could be caused by the swelling of the subsurface soil. Thus, this work has focused on employing a procedure in the geographic information system known as the inverse distance weighted (IDW) technique, to analyze the extent of cracks in a residential complex in the city of Kirkuk in Iraq using the physical and chemical soil data for seven boreholes from the field of the study. Physical soil parameters such as liquid limit (LL), gravel, sand, silt and clay percentages were characterized first, followed by chemical properties such as gypsum content (GYP), total suspended solids (TSS), potential of hydrogen (pH), and organic content (ORG). Furthermore, statistical studies such as plasticity index (PI) and soil characteristics association, linear single, and various linear multi-regression models were used. The data analysis shows that there are significantly positive and negative relationships between PI as a swelling indicator and the physical and chemical soil properties, although weak to moderate correlations were observed between PI and these variables. The PI values were accurately predicted by the proposed linear multi-regression models of the physical and integrated physical and chemical soil characteristics, with multiple R values of 0.92 for both models. As a result, the suggested statistical models can provide complete geographic and mechanical explanations for the crack sources in the investigated residential complex.

Opis:
Admixtures are commonly used nowadays in the mix composition of concrete. These additions affect concrete properties and performance especially creep deformations. This paper shows the effect of admixtures on creep of concrete. In fact, creep deformations have prejudicial consequences on concrete behaviour; an incorrect or inaccurate prediction leads to undesirable consequences in structures. Therefore, an accurate estimation of these deformations is mandatory. Moreover, design codes do not consider admixtures’ effect while predicting creep deformations, thus it is necessary to develop models that predict accurately creep deformations and consider the effect of admixtures. Using a large experimental database coming from international laboratories and research centres, this study aims to update the Eurocode 2 creep model by considering the type and percentage of admixtures using Bayesian Linear Regression method. The effect of two types of admixtures is presented in this paper; the water reducer and silica fume.

Opis:
In Tropical Savannah flooded valley soils, very low infiltration rates often result in acidic conditions favourable to high concentrations of metallic ions, toxic for rice. Determination of the under-phreatic infiltration rate is important in drainage design to reclaim degraded soils. Several studies have addressed the mapping of the infiltration rate. Yet, its relationship with the toposequence of the valley is not clarified. This paper has investi- gated such a possibility, examining the case of the irrigated rice valley of Tiefora, Burkina Faso. Nine boreholes – from 1 to 5 m deep – were implemented from upstream to downstream. The Lefranc permeability test of the under-phreatic level in water- logged soils – used when the impervious layer is close to soil sur- face or absent – was conducted. First, a comparative regression was applied to the data, including all the parameters of the regression curves. In the case of dissimilarity of the infiltration processes, the comparison focused on the final permeability. The results show a permeability increase from upstream (0.10±0.10 cm h -1 ) to down- stream (greater than 20±10 cm h -1 in some places). Taking into account such a permeability increase in the subsurface drainage system design would result in implementation of more efficient and cost effective systems.
