On August 23rd, 2020 a model of 1996 V12 Mercedes S600 Lorinser was sold at an eBay auction. While the asking price for this particular model, in 2021, is approximately between $4,500 and $11,000, this particular car was sold for a hefty sum of $202,200. What makes this Mercedes car unique and pricey is the fact that it used to belong to a basketball’s great, Michael Jordan. The fact that the auction in question was finalized in the midst of global, Coronavirus pandemic, and following the release of The Last Dance documentary on Jordan’s career, factors into the interpretation of the semiotics of the automobile itself. The aim of this paper is to analyze: the semiotics meanings attached to Michael Jordan as a persona and a brand/sign; the semiotics meanings attached to Mercedes brand and cars; and, ultimately, shifting semiotic meanings of Jordan’s 1996 V12 Mercedes S600 Lorinser in the context of time and the selling price, with nostalgia as a factor.

Cultural connotation is a manifestation of culture in the semantic content of phraseological units. There is no direct correlation between culture and language because the presupposition (previously known immense knowledge) always takes its place between them and serves as the key for the interpretation of both. It is impossible to comment on the cultural content of phraseological units not knowing their presuppositional base. That is why the cultural commentary of phraseological units is nothing else but methodical disclosure of their presuppositional aspects which are the true codes of culture and include in themselves meanings and senses connected with mythology, legends, rites and rituals, symbols, stereotypes, traditions, habits and so on.

Artykuł dotyczy problemu kulturowej interpretacji tekstowych realizacji systemu językowego współczesnego języka rosyjskiego, pojawiających się w aktualnym dyskursie medialnym (na podstawie tekstów prasowych). W przestrzeni tekstu słowa zyskują bowiem znaczenia jako jego elementy i wspólnie tworzą semantyczny kontekst i czytelną sieć powiązań, budując tekstową rzeczywistość medialną. Trudności w ich rozumieniu i poprawnej interpretacji sprawiają elementy kulturowe (jednostki nacechowane kulturowo): nazwy własne, frazeologizmy, skrzydlate frazy, symbole, asocjacje, konotacje słów itp. Ważna jest zatem kompetencja komunikacyjna studentów, na którą składa się również kompetencja językowa i (inter)kulturowa. Znajomość szerokiego kontekstu kulturowego i motywowanych kulturowo jednostek języka i analizowanego tekstu zarazem, pozwala studentom na zachowanie językowe (odczytywanie – interpretacje i budowanie wypowiedzi) zgodne z komunikacyjnymi normami kulturowymi.
The paper deals with cultural interpretation of text realizations in contemporary Russian language systems which appear in present mass-media discourse (based on press texts). Words gain meanings when used in a text, and together they provide semantic context and a clear network of interconnections, thus creating the text mass-media reality. The difficulties in their understanding and correct interpretation are driven by cultural elements such as proper names, idioms, idiomatic expressions, symbols, associations, words’ connotations and others. Therefore, students’ communication competence is crucial to understand those elements. Communication competence consists of, among others, language and (inter)cultural competence. The understanding of a broad cultural context and culturally motivated elements of Russian language system as well as analyzed text, allows the students to interpret the text in compliance with cultural communication standards.

Artykuł opisuje zastosowanie GIS w inwentaryzacji jednostek architektoniczno-krajobrazowych dla obszaru Polski. Prace obejmowały założenie bazy danych dla jednostek architektonicznokrajobrazowych, geometryzację plików rastrowych, wektoryzację konturów, opracowanie schematu implementacyjnego modelu pojęciowego struktury danych (SQL), modelu pojęciowego struktury danych (UML), standardów wizualizacji danych. Głównym problemem były analogowe materiały źródłowe, które należało odpowiednio przetworzyć.
The article describes the application of GIS in the inventory of architectural and landscape units for the area of Polish. The work included: development of a database structure for architectural and landscape units, geometrization of raster maps, digitization of unit outlines, development of the data visualization standards, establishment of the schedule for implementation of the conceptual data structure model (SQL) and conceptual model of the data structure (UML). The main problem during the realization of the project was the analog source material, which needed proper processing.

Opis:
The aim of the paper is to present problems which may occur in translation of phraseological units. On discussed examples the author analyses how the attempt to preserve by the translator an internal figurativeness of idioms influences to the choice of equivalent. To explain decisions and consequences were used cognitive approach.
В статье рассматриваются проблемы, с которыми сталкивается переводчик в процессе перевода фразеологических единиц. Анализируя примеры переводческих соответствий, автор пытается показать, каким образом стремление сохранить внутреннюю форму фразеологизма влияет на выбор соответствия. Для оценки и объяснения переводческих решений используются элементы когнитивного метода.

Funkcjonowanie jednostek kultury w głównej mierze jest determinowane formą pozyskiwania przez nie źródeł finansowania na prowadzenie bieżącej działalności lub realizację projektów celowych. Wydatki na finansowanie jednostek kultury stanowią niespełna 1% łącznych wydatków budżetu państwa. Brak dostatecznej informacji i wiedzy o sposobach oraz formach pozyskiwania środków przez jednostki kultury sprawia, iż coraz mniej inicjatyw jest podejmowanych w celu upowszechniania kultury w Polsce. Celem opracowania jest wskazanie źródeł finansowania jednostek kultury, a więc sposobów i metod poszukiwania środków na popularyzację kultury i dziedzictwa narodowego, w tym również tradycji i folkloru Polski. W pracy wskazano miejsce środków na finansowanie kultury w budżecie państwa, przedstawiono zmiany, jakie dokonały się w ostatnich latach w zakresie przepisów regulujących przekazywanie dotacji instytucjom kultury, jak również zaprezentowano źródła finansowania jednostek kultury na przykładzie województwa śląskiego.
The functioning of culture units is mainly determined by the form of obtaining source of funding to conduct current activity or implementation of targeted projects. The expenditure on the financing of culture units are less than 1% of the total state budget. Lack of appropriate information and knowledge about methods and forms of fundraising by culture units makes it less initiatives or events are organized to disseminate culture in Poland. The main aim of the study is to identify the sources of financing of culture units, so that ways and methods of searching for funds to popularize the culture and national heritage, including the Polish tradition and folklore. The study indicated the place of the financing of culture in the state budget, presented the changes that have occurred in recent years in terms of regulations about the transfer of subsidies to cultural institutions, as well as pointed out the sources of financing of culture units on the example of Silesian region.

Opis:
Współczesny ład społeczny na świecie jest funkcją wielu czynników. Jednym z nich jest historycznie ukształtowana strefa wpływu różnych cywilizacji. To właśnie różnice cywilizacyjne doprowadziły do powstania różnic kulturowych między narodami, których skutki są widoczne w każdym aspekcie życia społecznego. W związku z tym, różnice kulturowe stanowią obecnie pole do badań empirycznych w różnych aspektach, skalach i poziomach życia społecznego. Jedną z nich, gdzie różnice kulturowe dają znać o sobie są wielonarodowe jednostki wojskowe działające w strukturze Wojska Polskiego. Stały się one złożoną dziedziną badań nad kulturowymi aspektami ich funkcjonowania. W artykule przedstawiono zarówno teoretycznych rozważania, jak i analizy empiryczne różnice kulturowe między narodami tworzącymi analizowane struktury wojskowe.
The world’s contemporary social order is a function of numerous factors. One of them is the historically shaped sphere of influence of different civilisations. It is the civilisation differences that have given rise to cultural differences between nations, the effects of which are visible in every aspect of social life. As a result, cultural differences are currently subject to empirical research in various aspects, scales and levels of social life. One of them, where cultural differences exist, includes multinational military units operating within the Polish Armed Forces. These units have become a complex area of research into the cultural aspects of their operation. The article presents both theoretical considerations and empirical analyses of cultural differences between the nations that are making up the military structures under analysis.

The article focuses on the comparison of structures involving body-part terms in one language and their equivalents in another. The analysis is based on examples extracted from three novels published in both Hausa and English versions. Ten items representing the terms for body parts (mouth, stomach, head, back, front, hand/arm, eye, ear(s), leg/foot, heart) were checked in the parallel texts and compared in terms of their lexical equivalency. The analysis revealed important differences between the two languages in the use of body-part terms. A significantly higher number of body-part terms in the Hausa text than in its English counterpart is motivated by structural properties of the Hausa language in which these terms are involved in coding grammatical relations; it also has reference to the patterns of conceptualization in which body-part terms have various semantic extensions and metaphoric functions.

This article describes the changes in cultural policies in Poland which were triggered by the introduction of autonomous local self-governments in 1990 and 1998. The paper begins with a short presentation of the history of the decentralization of public authority and public funding of culture. Then competences of the Ministry of Culture and local governments in various cultural areas are compared. In the third part the authors focus on the accessibility of EU funds and its influence on the cultural sector. In next part the budgetary plans of local government units and actual expenditure on culture are compared. The concluding remarks present an overview of the changes which took place between 1990 and 2015. The article includes analysis based on data from the Central Statistical Office of Poland and from the Ministry of Finance.

The aim of this article is to present and analyse the factors that affect the success of the cooperation between science and business. The inspiration to write this article were the results of research conducted during the years 2015-2016 by a team of Academy of Management in Warsaw. These studies describe the problem of low level of innovativeness of the Polish economy. The goal of these researches was to identify barriers of innovation resulting from the wrong policy of the state, activities of enterprises and activities undertaken by research institutions. In this article, only the results of studies that concerned issues of cooperation between science and business are discussed. Then, in the course of further deliberations the difficulties in the communication and building relationship between business and science will be clarified. Theses: • The low level of innovativeness of Polish economy steam from the low level of cooperation between enterprises and research institutions • A key reason for the low level of cooperation between science and business is the inability to build relationships and establish communication between the two communities
Celem artykułu jest przedstawienie i analiza czynników, które wpływają na powodzenie współpracy między nauką a biznesem. Inspiracją do napisania niniejszego artykułu były wyniki badań prowadzonych w latach 2015-2016 przez zespół naukowy Wyższej Szkoły Menedżerskiej w Warszawie. Badania te dotyczyły problemu niskiego poziomu innowacyjności polskiej gospodarki. Ich celem było określenie barier innowacyjności wynikających z błędnej polityki państwa, działań przedsiębiorstw jak i działań podejmowanych przez instytucje naukowo-badawcze. Na bazie uzyskanych wniosków zostały przygotowane rekomendacje dotyczące możliwych rozwiązań, które mogłyby pozwolić na zmianę niekorzystnej sytuacji w zakresie poziomu polskiej innowacyjności. W niniejszym artykule zostaną omówione jedynie te wyniki badań, które dotyczyły zagadnień współpracy nauki z biznesem. Następnie w toku dalszych rozważań autora będzie podjęta próba wyjaśnienia jednej z kluczowych przyczyn niskiego poziomu współpracy obu środowisk, jaką jest trudność w komunikacji i budowaniu relacji. Tezy: • Niski poziom innowacyjności polskiej gospodarki wynika między innymi z niskiego poziomu współpracy przedsiębiorstw z jednostkami naukowo-badawczymi • Kluczowym powodem niskiego poziomu współpracy między nauką a biznesem jest nieumiejętność zbudowania relacji i nawiązania komunikacji między tymi środowiskami W podsumowaniu przedstawione są sugerowane rozwiązania, które mogłyby wesprzeć oba środowiska w nawiązaniu i rozwijaniu współpracy.

The article discloses the innovative approach to training and education of children and youth, which is based on the humanization of education, integrated education and polyart education. Humanization of education is considered in the article on both sides. 1) Reliance on pedagogical traditions of Russian science and education based on the concept of a free, humane, spiritual, creative personality, capable to selfdetermination and self-realization. The origins of these ideas are in the theoretical works of great scientists (K. Ushinsky, Leo Tolstoy, S.Frene, V.Sukhomlinsky) and philosophers (M. Bakhtin, Yu.Lotman). 2) Integration of humanities and methods of natural history. The impetus for the revival and the pedagogical model of humanization’s creation is a desire to overcome formal, abstract learning process, introducing a broad education into the cultural space where culture performs corrective function in the development of science.

W artykule przedstawiono zagadnienia dotyczące stereotypów i uprzedzeń wobec innych narodowości w oparciu o wiedzę zawartą w literaturze przedmiotu oraz badania własne prowadzone w wielonarodowych jednostkach wojskowych. Autor skupił uwagę na dwóch obszarach badań stereotypów i uprzedzeń. Pierwszy opiera się na kontekście historycznym i trwałości badanych zjawisk, natomiast drugi dotyczy zmiany stosunku do innych narodowości pod wpływem podwyższenia kompetencji kulturowej pod wpływem faz asymilacji kulturowej. W artykule przedstawiono również cechy charakterystyczne narodowości wchodzących w skład wielonarodowych jednostek wojskowych w oparciu o opinie respondentów.
The article presents the issues of stereotypes and prejudices against other nationalities on the basis of knowledge contained in the literature and own research conducted in multinational military units. The author focuses attention on two research areas of stereotypes and prejudices. The first one is based on the historical context and sustainability of the phenomena studied, whereas the other one relates to changes in relation to other nationalities under the influence of increased cultural competence under the influence of cultural assimilation phases. This article deals with ritual nominal units in the three contrasted languages – Ukrainian, English, and Portuguese. The units mentioned above fall under the group referring to the times of development of marriage relationship. The analyses of structure, semantics and functioning of the wedding nominal units becomes the key point to understanding history and  culture in general as well as verbalization of traditions in particular. In most cases etymology of the units is taken into account.
