Opis:
The possible origin of short range atomic displacements coupled with the irreversible amorphous Curie temperature relaxation (Δ $T_{C}^{am}$) in Fe-based glasses is discussed and analyzed on the basis of quenched-in phase reminiscences. The displacements are dominantly symmetry changes, which are governed by the relative stability of fcc and bcc quenched-in phase reminiscences at a given temperature range. Those of elements which cause positive Δ $T_{C}^{am}$ in as quenched state, also cause positive irreversible Δ $T_{C}^{am}$ during structural relaxation. The influence of Cr addition is just the opposite in this respect.

The phase H-P-β diagram of an easy-plane strongly anisotropic antiferromagnet is studied. It is shown that in such a system a realization of the phase with the nonmagnetic order parameter, the so-called quadruple phase, is possible. The realization of this phase is caused by several purely quantum effects, moreover the mechanism of its appearance differs in principle from that of the antiferromagnet or ferromagnet. The possibility of the disappearance of the angular phase (the so-called quadruple ferromagnetic phase) is also shown.

Opis:
Magnetic structure of single crystalline $TmB_4$ has been studied by magnetization, magnetoresistivity, and specific heat measurements. A complex phase diagram with different antiferromagnetic phases was observed below $T_{N1}$=11.7 K. Besides the plateau at half-saturated magnetization (1/2 $M_S$), also plateaus at 1/9, 1/8 and 1/7 of $M_S$ were observed as a function of applied magnetic field Bparallel c. From additional neutron scattering experiments on $TmB_4$, we suppose that these plateaus arise from a stripe structure which appears to be coherent domain boundaries between antiferromagnetic-ordered blocks of 7 or 9 lattice constants. The received results suggest that the frustration among the $Tm^{3+}$ magnetic ions, which maps to a geometrically frustrated Shastry-Sutherland lattice, leads to a strong competition between antiferromagnetic and ferromagnetic order. Thus, stripe structures in intermediate field appear to be the best way to minimize the magnetostatic energy against other magnetic interactions among the Tm ions combined with very strong Ising anisotropy.

In the paper the possibility of stabilization of the long-range magnetic order in a two-dimensional ferromagnetic with one-ion easy-plane anisotropy is explored. It is shown that at the presence of a small anisotropy in a two-dimensional ferromagnetic the long-range magnetic order is stabilized by magnetoelastic interaction. If one-ion anisotropy is comparable or even exceeds the exchange interaction in the system there exists a long-range non-vectorial quadrupolar tensorial magnetic order.

We analysed the influence of the fluctuations in distribution of magnetic atoms on the properties of dilute magnets with mixed ferro- and antiferromagnetic exchange interactions. The high- and low concentration approximations were found to give very close results and the most important impact on the physical quantities origins from the lowest, square fluctuations which play the predominant role in the whole range of concentrations of magnetic atoms.

Magnetic measurements of $HoAl_{2}$ are reported. The compound crystallizes in the cubic $MgCu_{2}$-type crystal structure. $HoAl_{2}$ exhibits two successive magnetic transitions: below $T_{c}$ = 29 K a ferromagnetic order is formed while anomaly at $T_{t}$ = 20 K is related to reorientation of magnetic moment. Near transition temperatures a magnetocaloric effect with magnetic entropy changes -$ΔS_{m}$ equal to 6.3 J/(mol K) at $T_{c}$ and 5.0 J/(mol K) at $T_{t}$ for an external field $μ_{0}H$ = 9 T is observed.

Opis:
Transport and thermodynamic properties of the well-ordered hexagonal CeAuGe compound have been studied. This compound is known to order ferromagnetically at $T_{C}$ = 10 K with well-defined anomalies in magnetic susceptibility χ(T), electrical resistivity ρ(T) and specific heat $C_p(T)$ characterising the phase transition. The location of $T_{C}$ has been observed to be unstable and enhanced even in moderate applied magnetic fields. However, the dilution of magnetic species, Ce, with the non-f electron element, La, is shown in this work to achieve a continuous suppression of $T_{C}$ to 0 K. The integrity of the space group and the details of the unit cell occupation are retained throughout the substitution series, as is the high-temperature localized Ce-effective magnetic moment $μ_{eff}$ = 2.54 $μ_{B}$/(mol Ce). Our studies of physical properties down to 0.05 K show a quantum critical form of non-Fermi liquid behaviour, characterised by a logarithmic divergence in $C_p(T)$/T data in the very dilute Ce content.

Opis:
We have studied the influence of hydrostatic pressure on the electrical resistivity of carbon-doped semimetal EuB₆ which orders ferromagnetically at T_{C}=3.9 K and is intrinsically inhomogeneous due to fluctuations of carbon content. We observed a shift of the low-temperature resistivity maximum from 4.6 K (at 1 bar) to 5.2 K (at 30.3 kbar) with increasing pressure. However, the maximum of the derivative dρ/dT(T), which reveals the temperature of ferromagnetic ordering, does not change its position with increasing pressure. This behaviour is different from stoichiometric EuB₆, where pressure increases the ferromagnetic ordering temperature. The origin of this discrepancy may lie in the increase of volume fraction of the non-ferromagnetic phase with increase of pressure. Additional magnetoresistance measurements at various pressures between 1.5 K and 30 K have shown that with increase of magnetic field the resistivity is monotonically decreasing, and above 1 T a transition to a monotonic resistivity behaviour (dρ/dT(T)>0) is observed. Our results support the picture that carbon-rich regions play a role of "spacers", which prevent the percolation of the ferromagnetic phase.

Magnetic properties, including magnetic structure, of some RTIn compounds (R = Tb-Er; T = Cu, Ni, Pd, Pt, Au) with the hexagonal ZrNiAl-type crystal structure are reported. Distribution of the rare earth atoms in the basal plane is similar to the kagomé-lattice. Magnetic moments are localized exclusively on the rare earth atoms and form different types of magnetic ordering. Experimental results are analyzed within the Ruderman-Kittel-Kasuya-Yosida and crystal electric field frames. Monte Carlo simulations, including the $J_{1}$ and $J_{2}$ exchange integrals between nearest and next nearest spins and Dzialoshinsky-Moriya interaction, were performed resulting in a number of magnetic phases, some of which are in good agreement with the magnetic ordering determined in the neutron diffraction experiments.

Opis:
We report on the basic physical properties of a novel $CeCo_{0.715}Si_{2.285}$ compound, mainly its rich magnetic phase diagram. The compound crystallizes in the I-4m2 space group structure with extremely elongated unit cell (a = 4.12 Å, c = 32.84 Å). In a zero magnetic field it orders antiferromagnetically at $T_{N}$ = 10.5 K with another order-to-order transition at 9.5 K. Under application of a magnetic field along the c-axis it manifests numerous magnetic transitions in small fields (B < 500 mT), resembling the so-called "devil's staircase" systems. Above 1 T the magnetization is almost constant up to 14 T (maximum magnetic field applied within our study) but considerably reduced (0.3 $μ_B$/Ce) with respect to the free $Ce^{3+}$ ion. After removing the applied field, however, the high field state remains unchanged to be removed in negative fields. The compound also exhibits strong hysteresis of magnetization with respect to varying temperature or magnetic field. For fields applied along the a-axis typical behavior for the hard axis in the material with uniaxial anisotropy is observed.

Opis:
The results of magnetic susceptibility and heat capacity measurements are reported for the Ce₄RuAl compound above room temperature to low temperature range (400 K to 0.34 K) and in the magnetic field up to 7 T. The magnetic susceptibility χ(T) exhibits a distinct anomaly at 0.95 K which most probably suggests a paramagnetic to antiferromagnetic phase transition. The magnetic susceptibility obeys the Curie-Weiss law in the region 100-400 K and revealed an effective magnetic moment $μ_{eff}$=2.18 $μ_{B}$/Ce which is less than the value for free Ce³⁺ ($μ_{eff}$=2.54 $μ_{B}$). The paramagnetic Weiss temperature indicates net antiferromagnetic correlations. In the specific heat a peak at 1.3 K supports the bulk nature of the phase transition observed in χ(T). The Sommerfield coefficient is moderately enhanced in the paramagnetic phase, and suggests f-c correlations among the electrons prior to magnetic ordering. The obtained Sommerfield coefficient γ behavior is consistent with the Anderson model-based theoretical predictions.

The Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya anisotropy, responsible for helimagnetism in $Ba_{2}CuGe_{2}O_{7}$, has recently been shown to comprise also a weak-ferromagnetic component. We theoretically demonstrate the signatures of weak-ferromagnetism in the magnon spectrum when a magnetic field is applied perpendicular to the z axis. We also anticipate the occurrence of unconventional domain walls in the so-called intermediate phase, and briefly elucidate the importance of the weak ferromagnetic component of the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya anisotropy for the dynamics of driven domain walls.

The dependences of the susceptibility of selected spinel and hexagonal ferrites on temperature are analyzed. The susceptibility shows a peak just below the Curie temperature T_{C} due to the Hopkinson effect during the heating. The appearance of this effect is associated with a transition from the region of stable magnetization state to superparamagnetic relaxations of the magnetic particles. It is in contrast to other explanations of the Hopkinson effect. These results are compared with measured particles size and with scanning electron microscope micrographs of both types of ferrites.
