The reviewed handbook, Language Mapping (two volumes), is a product of the series Handbooks of Linguistics and Communication (HSK, 30.2), subseries Language and Space. An International Handbook of Linguistic Variation. It follows the first, theoretical band Theories and Methods (HSK 30.1). It deals with the cartographic representation of linguistic data and concentrates on the topics of the principles of language mapping, existing traditions, current developments caused by the impact of computing, and applications. It aims to help linguists to understand the fundamentals of linguistic mapping. The handbook has two volumes: the text and the separate map volume with a collection of representative maps; it also contains the complete list of linguistic atlases introduced in the text volume. It should be stressed that the list contains more than 350 atlases
