The Glinna Dendrological Garden, established in 1880, is situated in north-western part of
Poland, in mild climate (USDA Zone 7). In 1938 the collection included 55 species of trees and shrubs,
in the post-war period the garden was partially abandoned and neglected, the number of species, often
very valuable and big trees, decreased to about 35 taxa.
Results of 40-years activity in the garden, under guidance of the Rogów Arboretum are presented. Since
1970 dendrological collections have been gradually enriched, to about 300 taxa in 1992, and 783 species
and varietes from 229 genera in 2009. The area of the garden enlarged from 1,80 ha in 1970, to 5,57 ha
in 2006. The reserve area, to enlarge the garden in the future, covers additional 7,45 ha.
The dendrological collections have a distinctly botanical character because the cultivars represent only
15% of whole taxa. East-Asiatic species, especially from China, dominate in the collections (58%),
North-American include 21%, European 20% and 1% originate from South America. Among the genera
– genus Acer is represented by 68 species and 9 cultivars, Magnolia and Viburnum – 22 taxa each. The
garden is in permanent development, every year the collections expand with 30-40 new taxa.
