Each language and each community name and evaluate the objects and events that exist in their world. The specific names that have been given to separate concepts are used in different contexts. In this way, a name becomes part of the idioms and proverbs of a given language. In every language, there are phrases, expressions and proverbs that have not changed and have been preserved over the centuries. The mere existence of a lexicon referring to the specific topic testifies to the importance and interest of a given issue for a community using a specific language. This paper includes the definition of jealousy/envy in both the Polish and Turkish languages, and the proverbs and phraseological expressions connected with the meaning of jealousy/envy. All the chosen proverbs and expressions, grouped subject-wise, will be presented in Polish translation. The Polish equivalents of Turkish proverbs are also be provided whenever exact or very similar Polish versions have been found. Groups containing particular proverbs and expressions describe: 1. the perception of jealousy/envy and the way it is manifested; 2. the engendering of jealousy; 3. the general truth concerning jealousy/envy; 5. proverbs giving advice on how it is necessary to behave.
