Most of the transgender research concentrates on transgender women (biological men who identity themselves with the opposite gender), leaving little space for the research on transgender men (biological women identifying themselves as men). This is, in particular, visible in the Polish literature on the
topic, and especially surprising in the light of Godlewski’s research (1988: 547), which indicates that transgender men outnumber transgender women in the Polish population.
The aim of the paper is to describe the phenomenon of transgenderism, its etiology (focusing on differences between transmen and transwomen) and the stages of transgender identity development; and to present two case studies of transgender men, describing the key moments for their identity construction and gender expression and their impact on the transmen functioning.
