Długi wdzięczności i oczekiwania historyka XIX wieku wobec archiwisty – głos historyka

The author draws attention to the areas of work of archivists, in which historians dealing with the 19th century are most interested: publication of sources from the 19th century and the development of archival aids to the 19th century fonds. The current state of affairs in both areas does not meet the needs. There are not enough finding aids available; many fundamental fonds of public administration institutions have no printed inventories, not to mention lack of the higher–order aids. The archives could also play a useful role in the field of publication. The author calls for collaboration of archivists and historians in making major publishing projects. She notices that the archives are one of the very few institutions that are statutory obliged to publish sources. This requires strengthening the personel of the archives by people who would first of all deal with the editions of sources. It is very important because the formal way of operation of the science does not favor publishing projects.
