Multiple endocrine neoplasia (MEN) and polyglandular autoimmune syndromes (PAS), belong to genetic polyendocrinopathies described in humans. MEN syndromes are often passed down in families. These syndromes have also been observed and described in dogs and cats. However, they were not considered as hereditary syndromes. Multiple endocrine neoplasia typically involves tumors in at least two endocrine glands. Polyglandular autoimmune syndromes were recognized in dogs but not in cats. They are characterized by immunodysregulation, polyendocrinopathy, and enteropathy. It seems probable that one of these syndromes, known as Schmidt’s syndrome, may be hereditary in dogs. This article offers a review of canine and feline MEN and PAS literature and also a short presentation of own cases, resembling MEN and PAS 2, in dogs.
