Inszenierte Kindheit. Selbsttherapien und Körperdiskurs im Roman "Anton Reiser" von Karl Philipp Moritz Staged Childhood. Self-therapies and Body Discourse in the Novel Anton Reiser by Karl Philipp Moritz
The article is concerned with the first part of the novel Anton Reiser (1785–1790) by Karl Philipp Moritz in relation to the melancholy and body discourse and connection with the book madness as a cultural phenomenon in the 18th century. The so-called book madness is not seen here as a cause of failure but as a method of self-therapy and a means of combating melancholy in childhood. The article focuses on Anton Reiser’s early childhood and his early reading matters. It explores the question whether book reading could be presented as an intertextually anchored self-therapy attempt and compensation of needs and how the novel presents the methods of dealing with emotionality.
