European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) is a basicbody of the European Union (EU), which is appo- inted for activities related to risk assessment.The EFSAmissionis to providescientificcounsellingand scientific and technicalassistance for the EU legislation and policy in all areaswhich have a direct or indirect impact on food and feed safety and providing independent information on all matters in these fields and informingabout risk.The structure of EFSA consists of four categories of authorities: three of them are collegial and one of them is monocratic body. Collegialbodiesare: management board, consulting forum, scientificcommittee and scientificpanels. The managingdirectoris the mo- nocratic body.The activities of the EFSA includes especially:issuing scientific opinions, provison of scientific or technical assistance, commissioning of scientific research, data collection and recognition of emerging risks. Thisactivityiscarried out with respect for the principles of independence, transpa- rency and confidentiality.The special field of the Office’sactivityisrelated with the theearlywarning system.The maingoal of this system isnotifyingof directorindirectdangerthreateninghumanhealth, coming from food.In addition to the office, the system includes EU MemberStates and the EU Com- mission.Members of the system mustprovideaninformationrelated to the existence of a directorin- directdangerthreateninghumanhealth, coming from food.The criticalsituationsincludecondictionin whichcriticalfactorsareat a levelwhichleads to the Commission’s recognition that the management of the risk from food will be complicated to anextentmakingitimpossible to regulate. Activitiesre- latedcrisis management includesallactivitiesnecessary to prevent, eliminateorreduce a givenrisk.The risk management methods for food and feed safety consist of the Commission setting up a crisis unit in which the Authority participates and adopting a general food / feedcrisis management plan, which, in particular,defines the practicalproceduresnecessary for crisis management.
