Ocelot is a small wild cat of both Northern and Southern Americas. As many other species in danger of extinction it has been placed in the Red Book. The survival of the species is absolutely dependent on our recognising of its specific needs and the will to meet them. Along with providing the best living and procreation conditions at the zoos its important to support the animals in their natural habitat.The article shows, to the best of current knowledge, ocelots biology and its specific behaviour. It also explicates the problems concerning the ocelots survival in natural environment as well as those the zoos staff have to deal when with trying to keep those animals alive. Some of the numerous scientific researches carried out all over the world in order to cope with the situation, have been presented.
