ROS as byproducts play an important role in cell signaling and regulate hormone action, growth factors, cytokines, transcription, apoptosis, iron transport, immunomodulation, and neuromodulation which many retroviruses, DNA and RNA viruses can cause cell death by generating oxidative stress in infected cells.
