The main aim of this article is to estimate attainments of the Polish foreign policy within a period of time between the elections of 2005 and 2007. The external relations of Poland were determined at that time by all major problems related to the process of European integration. The first substantial challenge for the European policy of Warsaw after an internal shift of power in 2005 was associated with negotiations on the EU`s Financial Perspective 2007–2013. During the Summit of European Council in December 2005, Polish Prime Minister emphasized the need to create common budget for the benefit of the European Union as a whole. What is more, Polish delegation presented many viable arguments to justify its truly European approach in this matter that resulted in moderate success of Poland. It seems that a sort of cohesion between well prepared statements and the ability to present them effectively was crucial for the foreign policy of Warsaw at that time. Unfortunately, this kind of approach was no longer continued in the Polish external relations. Moreover, its eastern dimension became very problematic for Warsaw. The major challenge in this matter related to the problem of energy security. That is why, Polish diplomacy acted in order to build European solidarity concerning the supply of gas. Furthermore, Warsaw tried to solve problems with Russian restrictions imposed on some commodities imported from Poland. However, the most important challenge for the Polish foreign policy after the elections of 2005 was connected with the debate on the future of European integration. It seems that a lack of accurate presentation of the Polish proposals was the major disadvantage in this matter. On the other hand, an internal debate on the European affairs at that time extended far beyond the desirable unity among the most influential political parties in Poland. It is generally known that the positive outcome of the foreign policy depends much on the cooperation of all political forces in the country.
