Jubilee Congress of Polish Mathematicians
On September 3-7, 2019, in Krakow, the Jubilee Congress of Polish Mathematicians took place, organized to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Polish Mathematical Society. The congress became an opportunity to meet mathematicians who are active in the country. Additionally, mathematicians who, for various reasons, went abroad and conduct their activities there, were also present. Finally, the congress gathered many mathematics teachers and all those for whom mathematical issues are within their interests.
The program was very rich. Among other activities, there were lectures by scientists representing various elds of mathematics. Several sessions were devoted to mathematics education. One of them took the form of a panel session entitled "On teacher education and key problems in mathematics teaching".
The panelists have agreed to publish their talks. Here we present the talks of two panel participants: prof. Ryszard Pawlak and prof. Michał
Szurek. Their talks are presented in an extended version, in order for the authors to better present their ideas. To these talks we attach the comments of two discussion participants: Dr. Konstantinos Tatsis from University of Ioannina, Greece and Dr. Jacek Dymel from Vth secondary school (Lyceum) in Cracow.
