Natur als Gegensatz zur Gnade oder Natur als Schöpfung? Der theologische Naturbegriff als Ausgangspunkt für die natürliche Theologie

Den Begriff der „Naturtheologie“ assoziiert man heutzutage in erster Linie mit seiner neoscholastischen Form, die von Anfang an nicht nur von der protestantischen Theologie abgelehnt wurde, sondern auch auf heftige Kritik von vielen zeitgenössischen katholischen Theologen stieß. Die Naturtheologie wurde als eine philosophische Disziplin verstanden, deren Ziel war es, die Existenz Gottes zu beweisen und seine Eigenschaften ausschließlich mithilfe der menschlichen Vernunft kennenzulernen, unabhängig von der Offenbarung und dem Glauben. Diese traditionelle Naturtheologie beruhte auf dem Verständnis der (menschlichen) Natur, die gegensätzlich zur Gnade dargestellt wurde, und auf der damit verbundenen Unterscheidung der Wirklichkeit in die voneinander unabhängigen Natur- und Übernaturebenen. Im vorliegenden Artikel wurde ein erneuertes Konzept der Naturtheologie vorgestellt, das auf dem theologischen Verständnis der Natur (gemeint ist die Welt sowie die ganze Wirklichkeit) als Schöpfung basieren und somit in die Idee einer universellen Offenbarung Gottes münden würde. Solch eine Naturtheologie könnte im Rahmen der Fundamentaltheologie betrieben werden. Ihre Aufgabe wäre es, in der als Schöpfung begriffenen Natur nach Argumenten zu suchen, die für Rationalität und Wahrheit des christlichen Glaubens an Gott sprechen würden. Andere Ziele dieser Disziplin wären systematische Reflexion über angeführte Argumente, konstruktiver Dialog mit Naturwissenschaften, anderen Religionen sowie dem Atheismus.

Today we associate the term „natural theology” with its neoscholastic form, which was not only rejected by Protestant theology from the beginning, but was also strongly criticizedby many contemporary Catholic theologians. It was understood as a philosophical discipline, the purpose of which was to prove the existence of God and to know his qualities only by means of the natural light of human reason, independently of revelation and faith. This traditional natural theology was based on the understanding of (human) nature as the opposite of grace and the division of realities into independent levels of nature and supernature. This article present a proposal for a renewed natural theology, which would be based on the theological understanding of nature (the world, the whole reality) as the creation and thus the place of God’s universal revelation. It would be a part of the fundamental theology, whose task would be to search for arguments for the rationality and plausibility of Christian faith inGod in the nature, to reflect on them systematically, and to engage in a constructive dialogue with natural sciences, other religions and atheism on their basis.
