This paper discusses the role of language in internal corporate communication. It is divided into two parts. The first part focuses on the organisational aspects of corporate communication, in particular internal corporate communication. It presents various organisational strategies of corporations which influence how employees communicate. Additionally, communication directions, structures and networks are elaborated on. The second part of this paper deals with aspects of language that are of significance for the functioning of formal and informal communication networks. It is demonstrated that formal communication and informal communication are intertwined, and language has great impact on communicative interactions and collaboration in international settings. Undoubtedly English is considered a common language in intercultural business communication, and its characteristics as a business lingua franca are presented in this paper. However, communication in business lingua franca English may negatively influence communication in international business settings, in particular when native speakers of English act as communicators. Therefore, it is argued that knowledge of and skills to use other languages may facilitate building and maintaining formal and informal communication networks. This paper elaborates on limitations and advantages of applying English and languages other than English in internal corporate communication.
