The Congregation of Servant Sisters of the Immaculate Virgin Mary started their missionary service in Bolivia in 1982. The sisters began their work at the parish managed by Polish Redemptorists who replaced French Redemptorists in 1979. Their first institution was established in Tupiza, where the first five sisters began work. Owing to their work in Tupiza vocations for the ministry appeared among the natives and hence the congregation established their second institution in Cachabamba in 1985.
Superior General Celina Czechowska, counting on development of the missions of the congregation in Bolivia, with the consent of the General Council, by the decree of 1 October 1994 established the Missionary Vicariate in Bolivia under the patronage of Saint Theresa of the Child Jesus. The Vicariate is managed by the legally appointed Mother Superior. Owing to an increase in the number of local vocations Bolivian nuns go to other countries. In Germany there is one purely Bolivian congregation.
